Igwe Godwin Ezeadusionu Ezekunie Ezeilo, the Obu Nanka of Nanka community and the entire community have celebrated this year's new yam festival in grand style.
The new yam festival started on Friday with Igwe Ezekunie, Obu Nanka, and his Lolo (Oche Eze) celebrating the new yam festival (iwa ji ofuru) in his palace at Ifite village, Nanka.
The Onowu Nanka, High Chief Ajie kofi Obijiofor and his Lolo, Igwe's cabinet members as well as the Nze-na-ozo tittle holders were in attendance. Others in attendance were the tittle chiefs and the women association as well as the youths and students associations. The entire community people were there to celebrate with their King.

Saturday event
On Saturday, the entire community celebrated the general new yam festival at the town's civic center in Okah village, Agbiligba, Nanka.
The highpoint of the event was the arrival of Igwe Ezekunie, Obu Nanka and his Onowu. They were welcomed with canon gun salute. Other dignitaries including the President Ohaneze Ndigbo world-wide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene (ishi idigiridi). Others included former member, House of Representatives who is also and Personal Assistant to the Speaker of the Federal House, Chief Dr Okwudili Ezenwankwo and Chief Dr Polycap Emenike (MON) Chairman and CEO Neros Pharmaceutical Limited.
The chairman of the event, Chief Ugochukwu Nwankwo thanked the dignitaries and the entire community and expresses his delight on the unity and progress of Nanka community. He appreciated those who have been sponsoring the event since inception and promised to remain supportive to the development of Nanka community.
PG urges community to embrace unity
The President General of the community, Reverend Cannon Dr John Ifeanyichukwu Ezike, in his speech, thanked and encouraged Nanka indigens to embrace Unity and industriousness.
Highlights of the event included the cutting of a roasted yam by the Igwe and the rituals thereof.
Another interesting part was the handing over of three new motorcycles donated by Chief Kofi Obijiofor, Onowu Nanka, as he did the previous years, to the best three farmers with the biggest and heaviest weighed yams. They were also given hoes and machetes and cash. All the other contenders also went home with hoes and machetes, plus cash.
After the event at the civic center, the Nanka Progressive Union planning committee, hosted to the Igwe and Igwe in council as well as others chiefs and dignitaries at the country home of Chief Kofi Obijiofor, Onowu Nanka. This has always been the normal yearly.
