Residents of Anambra state, south east Nigeria have stayed out of the ongoing national protest. Reports from various parts of the state indicate that people go about their daily businesses.

All markets, stores and artisan’s shops in the notable cities of Nnewi the industrial town and Onitsha the commercial city of Anambra State, opened for business as traders and youths shun the End Bad Governance nationwide protest that started today across the country.

Protagonists of the protest, especially Nigerian youths lament unbearable economic situation and hardship in country and called for nationwide protests across the nation.

The End Bad Governance protest is scheduled to last from 1st to 10th of August 2024 and aims at drawing the attention of the federal government to the critical and unbearable hardship in Nigeria.

Youth leaders  assert futility of protests

Recall that the leaders of the youth organizations in Anambra State paid a courtesy visit to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, on Wednesday, July 31, at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, and stated that they will not undertake any protests whatsoever in the state.

The leaders of Ohanaeze youths, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) youths stressed that they cannot join the nationwide protests particularly because Anambra State is peaceful and progressing steadily. They added that they would not partake of any disturbances that may lead to riots and the destruction of the great infrastructural developments put in place by the government.

The youth leaders also raised the issue of the futility of protests as an ill wind that will do no good to Anambra State and the Southeast geo-political zone at large.
